Web Application Deployment

fran
Hi all,

I have a dynamic web application which executes a web process through the relevant execute commands in a java class as per the attached file.

FilexExecute.java

When I run the web application through Eclipse, it works as expected - pointing to my externally hosted WPS and processing the data, creating a file at the end.

However, when I compile the WAR file in eclipse, and deploy it to my external website, the .jsp page loads, but the getProcessDescription values are null.  I have checked the 52n log files on my web server and they keep displaying the following:

I have a copy of wps_config.xml in my classpath, and I have checked the folder structure on the web server and it is in the folder where the app appears to be looking for it.

Could you please advise what I could do to fix this.

Thanks,
Fran

Hi Fran!

Could you please attach the complete log file to the discussion? The
message in your email is an "INFO" level log statement, which only tries
one of several means to discover the wps config file.

Re: Web Application Deployment

In reply to this post by fran
Hi Fran,

Did you change the hostname in the wps_config.xml of the WPS on the
external server?
You can check it by requesting the capabilities of the WPS, e.g.:

http://yyy.azurewebsites.net/wps/WebProcessingService?request=getcapabilities&service=wps

I suspect it still says localhost:8080 for the GET/POST URLs.

You will have to change that accordingly, e.g. to:

http://yyy.azurewebsites.net:80/wps/WebProcessingService?request=getcapabilities&service=wps

Note that you currently need to specify a port. Using port 80 should
work in your case.
You can change the hostname and port via the WPS admin console or
directly in the wps_config.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Benjamin

Re: Web Application Deployment

Hi Benjamin,

I have tried changing the hostname and I still get the same problem.  When I do that, the local Eclipse version also starts returning null - whereas before, even though it was pointing to the external WPS and just executing the code locally, it was returning values.

I have attached the complete logfile for you.

52n-wps.log

Thanks,
Fran

Re: Web Application Deployment

So, you are referring to the following exceptions?
...

2015-03-27 10:05:02,989 [http-bio-127.0.0.1-8358-exec-3] WARN  org.n52.wps.server.CapabilitiesConfiguration: Exception during instantiation of process wps.server.FeatureTestProcess
java.lang.NullPointerException: null
        at org.n52.wps.server.LocalAlgorithmRepository.getProcessDescription

...

Can you tell us more about these custom processes, e.g. which
AbstractAlgorithm class they extend?

Re: Web Application Deployment

Hi Benjamin,

Those exceptions were occurring because I was using an existing copy of the wps_config_geotools.xml from another installation which had those processes uploaded.  Removing these from wps_config_geotools.xml stopped those exceptions, but I am still getting null's returned from getProcessDescription when I access my website.

There are no exceptions in the log now, I have attached what was added to the log when I re-tried.

52n-wps.log

When I execute http://yyy.azurewebsites.net/wps/WebProcessingService?Request=DescribeProcess&Service=WPS&Version=1.0.0&Identifier=wps.server.FileConverter I get the response as expected like shown:

<wps:ProcessDescriptions xmlns:wps="http://www.opengis.net/wps/1.0.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.opengis.net/wps/1.0.0 http://schemas.opengis.net/wps/1.0.0/wpsDescribeProcess_response.xsd" xml:lang="en-US" service="WPS" version="1.0.0">

</Supported>
</ComplexOutput>
</Output>

</wps:ProcessDescriptions>

For some reason the code in the java class I attached to the first message returns null when not run through Eclipse.

Thanks,
Fran

So, you are getting an exception like the one below?

java.lang.NullPointerException
     at
org.n52.wps.client.WPSClientSession.getProcessDescription(WPSClientSession.java:196)

Re: Web Application Deployment

Alright, could you check the capabilities of your external service again?
(http://yyy.azurewebsites.net/wps/WebProcessingService?request=getcapabilities&service=wps)

You should find something like the following GET/POST URL for the operations:

http://yyy.azurewebsites.net:80/wps/WebProcessingService

If that is the case, the problem might be a caching issue. Could you restart the webapp that accesses the WPS and try again?

Cheers,

Benjamin

Re: Web Application Deployment

Hi Benjamin,

I double checked the hostname url and there was an extra "http://" included as I had left it there.  It appears to be working now, thank you for your help.

Thanks,
Fran
